DERMASAVER PRODUCTS

Arm Tube
Protects from wrist to above the elbow:

Two layers of soft, lightweight MicroSpring Textile™ form a loose-fitting tube that stays in place to protect fragile skin from pressure, friction and minor traumas that result in tears, bruising and minor abrasions. Unlike traditional fabric sleeves that are tight and binding, the layers of microfilaments allow air-flow and moisture transfer.

Simply slip the tube over the arm, there are no hook and loop fasteners or tight fitting spandex. The narrower end of the tube gently rests on the wrist to keep it from falling off. The cross microfilaments in the MicroSpring Textile allows these soft tubes to be self-supporting - they won’t slip down or bunch up.

Measure the circumference at the widest part of the forearm.

DERMASAVER FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How long has DermaSaver been on the market?
The first DermaSaver products shipped in August 2005. The number of repeat purchases is a great testimony to the efficacy and durability of the products. We are constantly refining, improving and developing new products.

What makes DermaSaver unique as a skin protective textile?
The MicroSpring textile has 4000 microfilaments per square inch that act as miniature springs to reduce pressure, shear, and friction. The air space between the filaments allows for breathability. And unlike foams and other products DermaSaver is totally institution launderable. The DermaSaver MicroSpring textile is an excellent replacement for hot and sweaty foams and neoprene. Additionally, the compression resistive force of DermaSaver closely matches that of soft tissue, making DermaSaver like a soft protective extra skin layer.

What makes the Skin Tubes™ unique?
The patent pending tubes fit an arm or leg loosely because the MicroSpring textile™ gives them body to stay elongate without slipping down or bunching up. Comfortable protection stays where you need it without having to be tight and binding on the skin.

Why are there so many sizes of each product?
People come in many different sizes and just as you need a variety of sizes for clothing, shoes, etc, it is necessary to have a variety of sizes for the DermaSaver products. While it may take slightly more effort to determine the proper size, this will insure that the products properly fit each resident to provide the maximum protection and comfort.

How Do I know what size to order?
Measure around the widest part of the forearm for the arm tubes and the widest part of the calf for the leg tubes. For the amputee stump cover measure 2” about the amputation site. For heel protection measure around the instep and the heel. Click here for sizing charts.

How do I wash the DermaSaver products?
All DermaSaver (except the Oxygen/Feeding tube covers) are machine wash and dry even in hot institution laundries. As with any garment, lower temperatures and gentler cycles will extend the life of the product.

Why aren’t the Oxygen Tube/Feeding Tube Covers launderable?
Because they have a strip of medical grade adhesive to keep them from slipping down on the tube. The adhesive cannot be laundered.

How long will do DermaSaver products last?
DermaSaver products are made to be durable. Most of the products should last for a year before showing significant signs of wear.

Can I use the same DermaSaver product on different patients?
Since the DermaSaver products can be laundered at high temperatures, the products are patient transferable.

Do I put the tubes over or under the residents’ clothing?
To achieve the best result, the DermaSaver Skin Tubes should be next to the person’s skin. Because the surfaces of the DermaSaver’s MicroSpring Textile are super soft and have much less friction or shear than ordinary fabrics. You will however, still get some benefit even if you put the tubes over the clothing.

Is DermaSaver cost effective?
Yes, although DermaSaver products may seem more costly in some cases, they have three key advantages: Patient transferability, durability, and most importantly, they actually work. The fact that DermaSaver actually produces a preventative and therapeutic result reduces dressing materials and labor cost.

How do patients accept DermaSaver?
Most residents find them much more comfortable than traditional products. We’ve had reports of patient’s accepting the DermaSaver products when they had previously not accepted any other products. Caregivers love to tell us stories such as the patient entering the shower and saying “Make sure those leg tubes are there when I get out” or the 102 year old woman who said the arm tubes were “neat.” and another saying “Make sure those tubes don’t get lost in the laundry”

How do I purchase DermaSaver?
DermaSaver can be purchased directly by calling +353-1-6602808, faxing your order to +353-1-6602808 or emailing your order to info@physioneeds.ie  We can instantly set up your account and will invoice your facility. We also accept MasterCard and Visa. We do not do any Third-Party billing. And we can only invoice facilities, not individual residential parties.

How fast will I get my order?
DermaSaver ships from Dublin by FastWay couriers. Orders received by 2 pm usually ship the same day. You will receive your order in 1-2 business days.

What Makes DermaSaver Anti-Microbial?
All layers of DermaSaver products are protected by the Aegis Microbe shield which uses an EPA registered antimicrobial technology to inhibit the growth of micro-organisms on the product.  It is permanently bonded to the fibers, does not leach, or volatize.

If DermaSaver is so good why is it just now developed?
Many of the suppliers in long-term care are content to sell the same products they’ve sold for years and are not particularly interested in patient focused innovation.

DermaSaver was developed by Ed Goodwin, an engineer who, in 1996 developed HipSaver®
the first hip protector with soft sewn-in pads that can be laundered in hot institution laundries. Engineers, like front line providers, concentrate on solving problems as their primary mission.
Ed and the design team at HipSaver, Inc, are constantly working on product improvements and
new product development. The best ideas come from caregivers. You can call Ed Goodwin
at 1- 800-358-4477 to get absolutely free prototypes of patient care solutions to your
particular problems.

DERMASAVER TESTIMONIALS

Dear Mr Goodwin,

I'm writing to tell you how satisfied we are with your DermaSaver products. We are a 300-bed Rehab and LTC facility and deal with a wide range of skin care challenges on a daily basis. Having products such as yours have proven to be a safe and comfortable alternative to protect the skin of our residents against trauma and pressure.

Currently, we use Stay-Put Heel Protectors, Full Arm and Leg Tubes and Oxygen Tube Covers. Here are some testimonials from some of our nursing staff:

"The Stay-Put Heel Protectors stay on the most restless of patients, cutting down on friction and shearing. They are comfortable and patients don't try to remove them, and they don't fall off in bed!"

"Within 4 days of applying the Stay-Put Heel Protectors, the redness from a stage I pressure ulcer was resolved on a bedfast resident with upper and lower body contractures."

"The Full Arm Tubes do a great job in prevention of skin tears in residents with fragile skin."

"All the DermaSaver products are soft and springy. I've seen a great reduction in skin tears on my unit. These products are great for prevention from breakdown for heels, knees and elbows."

"Residents who are usually resistant to any type of protectors to arms or feet find the DermaSaver products and are compliant with wearing your product."

"We used the Oxygen Tube Covers on a resident who uses oxygen around the clock via nasal cannula and had developed a pressure ulcer behind her ear. Her ulcer healed quickly, she never re-opened and she continues to use the Oxygen Tube Covers."

Thank you for providing our residents with such a wonderful and safe product.

Sincerely,
Elaine S. Aylward BS, RN, CWON

Dear Mr. Goodwin,

I have been working as a wound nurse at this facility for years and I am always looking for a "better" product to prevent and protect all types of wounds. I am thrilled with the DermaSaver products; they are everything I have been looking for. Most of the products I have tried either bunch or twist, never truly staying in the needed area. Most products are intended for a single use and therefore are not very cost effective. I especially like the fact DermaSaver products can be washed and dried quickly and then can be re-used for other residents.

We have a dementia units where the residents have little or no safety awareness. Most of the time we don't know how skin tears, bruises or abrasions occurred. We used your product on two residents who always seem to have a new wound. The first resident (wheelchair bound) would often have 4 or 5 skins tears on each leg in various stages of healing. We purchased two of the DermaSaver Shin~Knee tubes and she has not had a new wound since July 25 when we started the product. The second resident always had skin tears and bruises on his arms; the DermaSaver full arm tube has worked wonderfully. He has not had any new wounds since July 28th and we purchased a second pair for him. His wife is thrilled that we no longer have to wrap his arms in the bulky kerlix gauze dressings.

Again thank you for such a great way to protect and treat our fragile population.

Sincerely,

Mary Shirar, RN

"The DermaSaver Arm Tubes are really wonderful . Every time we purchase them we love them more & more. They have prevented countless skin tears and bruises on the residents. And they're very durable.”

“The DermaSaver Shin Tubes are wonderful. We had one resident with Peripheral Vascular Disease (PVD) who was getting bruises that would bleed under the skin and take the skin off her shins. Since using the DermaSaver Shin Tubes, her shins have healed and she has not had another bruise or tear.”

They are not tight, don’t cut off circulation and are so lightweight even people that get overheated can wear them.”

“The DermaSaver arm & leg tubes are great products for skin protection. Residents find them soft and comfortable, and not tight like other products we’ve tried. The natural color of the product looks nice on the residents. They work really well with residents who are self mobile in the wheelchair and have a tendency to bump their arms and legs. We really like your products.”

"We are very impressed with the DermaSaver products. The resident that used the Pressure Reduction pillowcase commented that she had not slept so well in a long time. We put the Stay-Put Heel Protector on a gentleman that would never keep anything on but he has been wearing this product consistently.Your products are very nice!”

"The DermaSaver Arm Tubes are the greatest. We’ve been using them on residents with high risk for injury and have
had no incidences. The residents like them, find them comfortable and not too warm. I can’t say enough good things
about your products.”

“We love the DermaSaver products! It’s much better than what we were using before...the patients’legs are not getting torn up. I’ve been in this profession for over 20 years and this is the best product I have ever seen!”
Cora Daniel, LPN

"We’ve had great success with your DermaSaver products. On one resident in particular, the DermaSaver arm tubes not only prevented skin tears but healed her existing tears much quicker than anything we had tried before.

We’ve had problems with other protectors sticking to the wounds, but not with DermaSaver. I really like the air permeability and antimicrobial qualities of the products, too.”
